Photo Note - Streetfighters

One of my guilty pleasures here in Dhaka is watching street fights. But there’s not much guilt because here everybody loves watching, and getting into street fights. It is the travelling theatre of Bangladesh. Often they are about the most miniscule causes you can imagine, like bumping rickshaws (it happens a million times a day), or as is happening here, not liking the colour of some other guys t-shirt. It’s the pettiness of it all that is so entertaining. The crowds know it, and will gather within seconds to see what’s going on. The constant cries of ‘hey, what’s happening?’, and ‘what’s going on?’ from the back is the soundtrack. At the end of it all, fully two thirds of the crowd don’t really know what happened. But they were there, they were entertained.
